University Relations
As the campus director of news and media relations, I help to tell the story of UC Santa Cruz through local, state, national, and international media coverage and through internal communication outlets, such as Tuesday Newsday. I oversee a talented team of writers who promote research and achievement and often successfully pitch this news to leading news outlets across the nation and world. I'm always looking for compelling and interesting stories from the campus. I also serve as the campus spokesperson, giving a campus perspective to a range of topics.
I joined the University of California in 2009, when I started at UC Merced as a public information officer charged with promoting research across the university. I served as the Merced campus's director of news and social media from 2012 until 2014, when I joined UC Santa Cruz to serve as director of news and media relations. Before working in higher education, I was an award-winning reporter at the Merced Sun-Star, reporting on city and county government, crime, and general news for the daily newspaper.
